My Rating
Rating: 5 out of 5.
The only good thing about losing everything, is the freedom that comes from having nothing left to lose.
When you know you are in the hands of a master, all you have to do is to sit back, get comfy and wait for the crazy ride. Alice Feeney is one author whom I guarantee can make you experience the sheer thrill of bungee jumping! Rock Paper Scissors offers one helluva ride of thrills, gasps, and breathless excitement.
Told thru alternate POVs of the husband Adam and wife Amelia, and the diary entries corresponding to the date of the wedding anniversary, Rock Paper Scissors gets under the skin of the reader. Adam and Amelia are not very likable characters and as the story progresses, we see them lying point-blank about their intentions and going to lengths to harm each other in the process.
Blackwater Chapel is the last place for anyone to stay, amidst a raging snowstorm, especially a couple who are hoping to rekindle some spark into their relationship. The description of the Scottish landscape oozes misery and adding to the chill, is the invisible phantom who has been patiently waiting for the couple.
Come to think of it, when you are gushing about the novel to a fellow reader, they would probably wonder what the fuss is all about, but trust me when I say this, reading this book gives you a glimpse of the incredible talent of this author, narrating a plot that we are so used to in such a fashion that it becomes practically impossible to guess the story. The narrative style incorporating a very rare medical condition called prosopagnosia or face blindness and thus bringing about twists and turns into the story was amazing, to say the least.
All 5 stars for this compulsive thriller which had me reading late into the night trying to decipher where the story is leading to.

Think you know the person you married? Think again…
Things have been wrong with Mr and Mrs Wright for a long time. When Adam and Amelia win a weekend away to Scotland, it might be just what their marriage needs. Self-confessed workaholic and screenwriter Adam Wright has lived with face blindness his whole life. He can’t recognize friends or family, or even his own wife.
Every anniversary the couple exchange traditional gifts-paper, cotton, pottery, tin-and each year Adam’s wife writes him a letter that she never lets him read. Until now. They both know this weekend will make or break their marriage, but they didn’t randomly win this trip. One of them is lying, and someone doesn’t want them to live happily ever after.
Ten years of marriage. Ten years of secrets. And an anniversary they will never forget.
Rock Paper Scissors is the latest exciting domestic thriller from the queen of the killer twist, New York Times bestselling author Alice Feeney.
