I just love it when I get to learn something new. I had no idea that the British were the first to understand the bubbles in wine as something to be enjoyed before the French got to it and the sparkling wine was referred to as the Devil’s Wine cause of its bursting tendencies, interesting isn’t it? Well, thank you Lenora Bell for that exciting info.
Lack of heirs has created a problem for Henrietta, she cannot allow her priced vineyards to be taken out of her hands and thus the solution to the problem, get another bride for her father and soon. But the best-laid plans went for a toss when a wicked gambler claims to be the lost heir and her father turns the table and forces hetty to marry Ash.
The swoon-worthy hero, the determined heroine, and smoking hot sexiness, what more can one ask for? Oh, add to it some interesting friend circle of Hetty’s with cats, The Devil’s Own Duke was a riot to read. But it is not all fun and frolic as the author brings to light the plight of the orphan children forced into labor in factories and the darkness that lures them into a life of crime. I loved how Lenora Bell highlights this thru the life of Ash and his vehement desire to get a dukedom by hook or crook to ensure the abolishment of such cruelties. It was also fascinating to see the vineyards and their workings and Hetty’s utmost passion to make a mark in the world with her wine.
