The Man Who Died Twice (Thursday Murder Club #2) by Richard Osman #BookReview #MysteryThrillers #Humor — Rain’n’books

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh God, how crazy can one get when dead bodies are appearing left, right, and center in a story but all one cares about is laughing one’s head off with the antics of its characters. The Thursday Murder Club introduced the fascinating Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron, and Ibrahim to its readers and in Book #2 The Man Who Died Twice, Richard Osman takes the readers on a journey that involves, diamonds, mafia, spies, drugs, and whatnot. Having the charming DCI Chris and the lovely PC Donna assist them with certain aspects of the case and adding a delectable Bogdan to the ride brings all sorts of drama to the table.

The Man Who Died Twice takes the mystery a notch higher with Elizabeth’s spy background coming to the fore and giving a clearer picture to the reader into her background. The story begins with an attack on Ibrahim and Chris and Donna unofficially supporting the revenge they plan for his attacker. But this is where Richard Osman makes it terribly exciting as Elizabeth’s past life comes calling and finding 20 million worth of diamonds becomes a matter of utmost importance and reading how one story merges with the other was electrifying at times.

Like in the first book, the journal entries by Joyce and then the multiple POV’s keeps the reader hooked in, the quick narrative not letting the reader take a break and assimilate the events happening around the 3 of them, Ibrahim is more of the silent spectator in this one. Even though humor is the predominant feeling after reading the book, the author does give glimpses of the trauma of dementia and there are also a couple of scenes between Ron’s grandson Kendrick and Ibrahim that was honestly touching. There is romance in the air for Chris and Patrice, Donna’s mum, and I loved that small nudge at the end with Bogdan that will hopefully develop into a full-fledged story in the next one.

An utterly compelling and twisty fun ride with characters that you would love to meet in real life, The Thursday Murder Club is a must-read for all fans who love their mystery with humor.

It’s the following Thursday.

Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.

As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn’t that be a bonus?

But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn’t bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can The Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?
